Fajã d’Além

There are 2 pedestrian access trails to this Fajã, it is possible to make a circular trail, 5 km long, which allows you to visit the small and remote Fajã de Além, one of the most typical Fajãs, with its small stone houses.

During the descent, along the Santo António trail, you will have magnificent views of Fajãs de Além, Ouvidor, Ribeira da Areia and, on clear days, the islands of Terceira and Graciosa.

In Fajã it is possible to observe some rural houses, small agricultural lands of traditional cultures, some support structures such as wineries and a water mill – “O Moinho do Sr. Moisés”.

The locals, a hospitable people, continue to use ancient customs, always inviting passersby for a little chat or even a taste of «aguardiente da fajã».
